In memory of LGBTIQ advocate & community hero Ian Purcell AM

We would like to acknowledge the life-changing contributions to South Australia by prominent LGBTIQ advocate Ian Purcell AM, who passed away in early November 2016 at the age of 69.

He will be truly missed by the South Australian LGBTIQ community for which he has championed for decades.

Ian Purcell has been recognised countless times for his dedicated and tireless commitment towards equal treatment for LGBTIQ South Australians.

Ian led the Let's Get Equal campaigning which sought equal legal rights for de facto same sex couples, as well as founding the Uranian Society and Gay and Lesbian Community Action and volunteering for Pride March Adelaide, the Community Safety Network, Feast Festival and the Parkstone Trust. Ian has also represented the LGBTIQ community on the Ministerial Advisory Council on Gay and Lesbian Health and the SA Police and Lesbian Liaison Committee. Ian was finally recognised for his courageous campaigning as Senior Australian of the Year in 2011.

Our thoughts are with Ian's husband Stephen and Ian's many friends, family, community and those inspired by his leadership and passion for change.
